A Brief History: From Forest to Fame
Kaziranga story begins in 1905, when Lady Mary Curzon – wife of then Viceroy of India – visited the site and was heartbroken not to spot a single rhino. So, her concern led to the establishment of a reserve, which would grow over time into a National Park in 1974, and a UNESCO site by 1985.
What was once a hunting ground became a heaven for endangered species.
