Kaziranga is globally renowned for being the last stronghold of the endangered one horned rhinoceros. Approximately over 2500 of them roam this protected area- the highest concentration in the world.

When you visit this place, You will find Big Five of Indian Wildlife: the one horned rhino, Royal Bengal Tiger, Asiatic Elephant,Wild water buffalo and Swamp deer.

A Brief History: From Forest to Fame

Kaziranga story begins in 1905, when Lady Mary Curzon – wife of then Viceroy of India – visited the site and was heartbroken not to spot a single rhino. So, her concern led to the establishment of a reserve,which would grow over time into a National Park in 1974, and a UNESCO site by 1985.

What was once a hunting ground became a heaven for endangered species.

There are two main ways to explore Kaziranga National Park

  1. Jeep Safari – Jeep Safari is very very adventurous for watching the forest. A thrilling drive to grasslands and marshes. Spot rhinos, elephants, herds of deer and even elusive tigers.

2) Elephant Safari – A quieter more immersive experience – especially ideal for bird watching in the early morning mist.

a) Kohora( central zone) – best for rhino sightseeing.

Birds of Kaziranga: The feathered symphony

Ye, Bird watchers rejoice! Kaziranga is designated as an Important Bird Area. Over 565 species birds have been recorded here, including

a) The great Indian Hornbill

b) Bar- headed Geese

c) Pallas’s Fish eagle

d) Bengal Florican

Best time to visit

Kaziranga National park is open from November to April. The cool,dry months of December to March are best for Safaris.

Monsoon ( June to September) brings flooding from the Brahmaputra, which rejuvenate the ecosystem but closes the park temporarily.
